When composing a cento, poets take lines from existing poems (traditionally without any alterations) and patch them together to form a new poem. Today, create a cento using only quotes referenced in newspaper articles.
Fish in a Barrel
They say it’s like shooting
fish in a rain barrel.
Here it’s a free-ranging
hunt. It’s a fair chase hunt.
I can’t guarantee you
I’ll get you the deer
you’re looking for. It’s
an unrealistic expectation
You see him? He’s got his head
down. They say it’s like shooting
fish in a rain barrel.
As we loaded him in
there was one standing
in the woods watching me.
He told everybody
he killed it fair chase.
They say
it’s like shooting fish
in a barrel.
